Photo Restoration

A damaged photo...

...can be heartbreaking, especially if it's of sentimental value and one-of-a-kind. While no one can repair an original photo, The ArtD'partment can offer you a fully restored copy of your photo in digital or print form. Our duplication process won't further damage your original photo, and you'll be thrilled at the detail we can retrieve for your restored print. Even severe damage can be dramatically improved or completely erased like that in the following examples:

The damage to the photo at left wasn't extensive, consisting largely of some minimal spotting, some small scrapes, and one large crack. The missing portions of the photo edges, however, also required restoration. We were able to recreate the lost parts of the photograph and integrate them seamlessly with the restored copy.

The photo at right had some dark spotting as well as cracking, and small portions of two corners were missing. The real challenge in the restoration of this photo involved the fact that a substantial portion of the woman's face was marred by a crack. We were able to retrieve enough detail from the damaged photo, however, to completely restore her face.

This photo was, unfortunately, quite badly damaged. Not only did it have significant cracking and some worn spots, it had suffered water damage, was missing its edges, and someone had spilled ink on it at some time in the past. Utilizing a variety of digital techniques, The ArtD'partment was able to restore the photo to near-perfect condition.

The photo at right offered an interesting challenge. While the damage to the original wasn't severe (there was water damage confined almost entirely to the edges), the client also wanted the black and white picture to be colored in the style common in the era in which the photo was taken. After restoration, we used authentic painting techniques in a digital format to get the result the client requested.
