Today's computers and software, when combined with skill and experience, mean that mediocre photos can be made better, and good photos can be made great. Of course, there's also an important line that must not be crossed in any marketing program, and that's modifying an image to the point where it no longer accurately represents the subject (although there are times where alterations, even extreme, can be perfectly appropriate).

Photographic enhancement isn't something that's new and different since computers came on the scene. The idea has, in fact, been around almost since photography was invented. From the hand-painted photos of the mid-twentieth century to the touch-ups employed by photographers and artists alike, photographic enhancement has changed only in the techniques used to achieve the desired results.
